# The Advent of the Overman There are moments when the ordinary consciousness of humanity seems like a small, flickering lamp in an immense darkness. In such moments, we catch glimpses of something beyond ourselves—a presence, a possibility, a call from the future. This is the stirring of what might be called the overman, that figure who transcends the limitations of ordinary human existence. The overman is not a dream of the distant future, nor is he a mere fantasy conjured by philosophers in their studies. He is the natural outcome of a certain way of living, a certain intensity of being. Just as the evolution of life on earth has given birth to ever more complex and conscious forms, so too has humanity the capacity to evolve beyond its present state. The overman represents not a break with nature, but its continuation—the flowering of what was always latent within us. Consider the human being as we know him: bound by convention, limited by inherited morality, trapped in the comfortable prison of social acceptance. He lives according to rules written by others, thinks thoughts approved by the masses, desires what society has taught him to desire. In this condition, he is asleep. The overman, by contrast, is awake. He has broken the chains of received wisdom and dares to create his own values, to forge his own path through the world. This is not to say that the overman is a tyrant or a destroyer. Rather, he is one who has learned to master himself, to channel his energies and passions toward the creation of beauty, truth, and meaning. He does not hate humanity; he loves it intensely, precisely because he sees what it might become. His greatest work is the education and transformation of human consciousness itself. The advent of the overman is neither inevitable nor impossible. It depends upon whether there arise individuals brave enough to question everything they have been taught, strong enough to bear the weight of freedom, and creative enough to imagine new possibilities for human existence. It depends, in other words, upon us. The overman will not arrive as a savior from without. He will emerge from among us, born from the womb of human struggle and aspiration. And perhaps—if we have the courage to face ourselves honestly—the overman is not something that will happen to us, but something we must become.

In the quest for joy of the one without a second, the Eternal manifests, unfolds, and flows forth as creation itself. Though singular, He became manifold for the sport of His bliss. Though infinite, He bound Himself within the finite. The secret mystery of His creation remains yet unrevealed to mankind. Creation evolves gradually along the path of consciousness. By the grace and action of His ineffable power, matter first took form. After matter came life, and after life came mind. From the evolution of mental consciousness arose humanity—the finest creature of the present creation.

With the ascent of human consciousness grew human society, and with it religion, education, culture, literature, art, music, science, sculpture, and all the vast edifice of human civilization. Diverse nations appeared upon the earth, and kingdoms were established. Yet despite the utmost development of the human mind and intellect, mankind remains tormented by countless afflictions. There is no peace for them, no rest anywhere. Within human society reign conflict of interests, greed and cruelty, envy and enmity and discord. To resolve these troubles, God has sent His messengers again and again to man's door. He Himself came as an avatar and imparted supreme wisdom to humanity. And still, human consciousness has not awakened.

Every religion has taught mankind that God is one and the source of all. Through different paths can He be reached, to Him can access be found. He dwells equally in the heart of all. Yet despite this, the strife born of religion and doctrine knows no end. The root cause lies in ignorance and mankind's unconsciousness of God's existence. Human consciousness today lies submerged in profound darkness. Life is now governed by the forces of falsehood, delusion, illusion, and ignorance.

Man loves his own unbridled excess, his lack of restraint, his weakness and incompleteness. Until he conquers himself, lasting happiness and peace will not come to him. At every step, man is led astray by the passions that dwell within. His inner divine nature lies veiled beneath thick layers of unconsciousness and delusion. He fears to transcend his own ego and establish within himself that greater and vaster consciousness of God. Beauty, goodness, and truth he forever keeps at arm's length—so where, then, is the joy of a harmonious life? Where is bliss? Where is peace?

The discoveries of science are being employed for our bodily comfort and convenience. Yet man is also wielding science as an instrument of destruction. The lust for dominion of one over another has stained the human soul time and again, blackened human civilization with soot. When personal greed and selfish hunger assume a collective form, man's demonic impulses become all the more terrible. The result is war and strife, the death of peoples, the extinction of humanity—profound discord and agitation.

Despite all their wars and conflicts, and despite enduring their bitter consequences, mankind has failed to transform or reshape those primitive blind instincts that lie at the root of their nature. Man remains as he was—half-beast still, shrouded in darkness. What is the remedy for this human wretchedness? If man can discover the consciousness of the Divine within his own heart, bring it to bloom in his life, and feel the presence of one Supreme Lord dwelling in all beings, then he shall overcome his blind impulses and his dark passions. Then there shall awaken within him a love for all humanity, a supreme wisdom, and a consciousness of universal kinship. He shall make himself exemplary before all. Freed from hatred, he shall dwell in the consciousness of sublime unity, and in that very moment, true joy and true power shall take their eternal abode within him.

Through the stream of evolutionary becoming, Nature cannot rest content with imperfect, flawed mankind born of countless errors and incompleteness. Her aim is to fill this earth with Divine Consciousness and to bring forth the Overman and the Overhuman collective. To transform this world divinely and establish truth here, the Divine Man is needed. The human mind is not the final stage of consciousness—above the mind stretch many, many higher levels of consciousness. There exists the Supreme Consciousness possessing the very essence of God, and the Supramental, far above all these realms.

That Supramental shall descend into this world and create the Overman here. Then the arrogance and dominion of mankind, driven by blind instinct, shall no longer hold sway upon this earth; a new world shall be born, a new Divine Humanity. This difficult work lies beyond the power of man's individual being alone—it requires the dwelling of Supreme Power within the heart. Those who can surrender themselves utterly and entirely into the hands of that Supreme Power alone can become Divine Men. That miraculous power through which human ascension has become possible in this world—that deep Supramental force must be made manifest among mankind.

Through ages unnumbered, the dream of countless saints, sages, and seers has been this: to build the earth into a kingdom of truth and justice—to establish here the presence of Truth and Auspiciousness, the Supreme Brahman. Yet they could not discover the principle, the truth of what force might make this possible, or by what power it could come to pass. Through their spiritual strength and the power of the Supramental, it has not been accomplished until now. Religious discipline has proven wholly unable to transform human nature completely. And so the Lord Himself has come, taking various forms and avatars, showing different paths to the world, so that the earth might become Divine and Godly, so that man might become the Overman, god-like in nature.

Through their profoundest devotion and their austere spiritual practice, the Supramental has descended into this world; a new cosmos has been born hidden within ordinary human creation. This Supramental force itself shall create the Divine and the Overman upon this earth—what is needed from mankind is loyalty and reverential practice toward that power. Only then shall the earth become sweet with honey; it shall make alliance with heaven; there shall be built a bridge between heaven and earth. Through the grace of that Supreme Power, the earth shall gradually move toward sublime unity and its divine manifestation. Then one day this very earth shall become the playground of the Overman—radiant in the splendor of the Supramental.
