The Bridge of Sorrow

That day I discovered it suddenly—night journeys are extraordinary. Insecurity, fear, loneliness... and yet a strange exhilaration too. I could be destroyed at any moment... and what kind of life is it for someone who has never passed through that knowledge?!

Truth is, life cannot be all happiness. It needs to be a mixture like street food—a blend of everything, or else life becomes unpalatable. Without a measure of uncertainty, existence feels like a cattle shed, monotonous and suffocating. An orderly life is always a petty life. Happiness and greatness never dwell together in a life.

The life you live—six hundred and ninety-nine crore ninety-nine lakh people live that very life. The few thousand who remain—we are like me. We see our faces in the reverse side of the mirror. There is a great distance between what the mirror shows and what it must show. The bridge that carries you across that distance has a name: suffering. Suffering is true wealth.
