I believe that the opportunities a person has, the options that lie before them—they can never achieve every single one of them. For various reasons, they cannot. Family reasons prevent them, personal circumstances prevent them, perhaps they simply lack the opportunity... that stops them, or perhaps they don't have the time... that prevents them too. In countless ways, even when they want to, they cannot achieve everything.
Now, for those trying to join public service, let me say this: beyond the BCS exam, there are many government job examinations that are highly prestigious, with excellent career prospects. When someone is preparing for a particular job, they might suddenly think—preparing for this feels difficult for me, or I simply don't want it anymore, or maybe it's not difficult but I just don't want it; or it could be that I initially decided to pursue this job, but now I need to change my decision—I won't take this job.
It might also happen that while preparing for one job, another plan enters their mind, another avenue opens up before them—something they had never considered before. In that case, they can change their plan, and this is good. This is truly wonderful, because when I learn about something, and after learning, if I feel this isn't for me, I cannot go down this path, then if I have the opportunity, the time, and the ability or capacity, if I step away from that plan and work with another plan instead, then I would tell you—the fear I had of spending my entire life in regret, I am freed from that fear of living in regret.
That's why I say, if you have the opportunity to change at the beginning, change at the beginning. Later you won't be able to change anymore. You won't have that time, that opportunity, or that capacity either. Yes, if you have the option to change, then change. I know a friend of mine who enrolled in BCS coaching and was very serious about BCS. Suddenly, he thought—what am I doing! What he was doing, he didn't like it. When he learned what the job in public service was actually like, he realized that if he joined public service, he wouldn't enjoy the job! When we start studying for public service jobs, 98 percent of us don't actually know what public service is like, what we'd have to do in public service! The job I'm studying for—what I'd need to do and what I wouldn't need to do in that job—we don't know this. Now if someone learns this and then thinks, I can't do this, there's nothing wrong with that. Not everyone can do everything—we have to accept this.
So my friend suddenly understood that I cannot work in public service. It's not possible for me. So whether I'll walk the path of BCS preparation, which appears difficult at first glance—that's a much later question! The initial question is: I don't want to do this job at all. What do I want to do? I want to take the GRE exam and go abroad. I'll go to America by taking the GRE. Or I'll take the IELTS exam and go to some other country if I can't go to America. And that's exactly what he did. And now he works as a research assistant at a renowned university, earning money from there. He's married too, the happy father of a daughter. He's doing well. But if he had joined public service, perhaps he wouldn't have gotten the satisfaction he's getting now.
Your satisfaction matters! The life is yours! The decision is yours! All the sufferings and all the blessings are also yours! Your life is yours alone. How you'll live that life is your decision. If you're happy, you will be. If you're miserable, that too will be you! If your decision is wrong, you'll suffer for it. If your decision is right, you'll enjoy it. Everything depends on your decision. Think for a moment—what kind of life do you want to live, what kind of life do you want to see yourself in! If you can understand that, then whatever you're doing now, come out of it and try to reach the life you want. Once you enter another kind of life, switching from there is truly very difficult! Yes, very very difficult! Switching is not easy at all! Rather than that, if you switch at the beginning, it won't be much of a problem for you. Time won't be wasted either, and opportunities will remain. This is what I believe.
