Bonsai of Thoughts (Translated)

Bonsai of Thoughts: One Hundred Sixty-Two

1. Water.
Above it, a boat.
Above that, a deck.
Above that, me.
Above that, failure
or excuses for suicide.

2. Today, to tell the truth,
inside my chest
there are only stones.

3. When you have time, do check on me, because I love you.
I make time to check on you, because I love you.

4. When someone who loves
behaves terribly toward
the one they love,
there is nothing more frightening.

5. Forcing someone to love
what you love—
what else is that but the behavior of a beggar!

6. He wrote such beautiful poems,
yet no one agreed to publish them!
In his heartbreak
he looks toward the wall,
where he sees his beloved Rabindranath's picture.
Calling to the gecko beside it, he says,
Remember this: after Rabindranath,
I am the greatest poet!

7. In blindness of the eyes, people cannot see,
in blindness of faith, people do not want to see.

8. Some food...
kills the appetite for food.
And some people...
kill the appetite for people.

9. Before getting you:
You are everything!
After getting you:
Are you everything?

10. Until making a girl fall in love...
the boy pursues, the girl runs away.
After making a girl fall in love...
the girl pursues, the boy runs away.

11. To introduce themselves, some people need to exaggerate about themselves.
To introduce themselves, some people need say nothing about themselves at all.

12. Running and running, much of the path gets covered.
Then
there's no strength left even to rest.
Suddenly it occurs:
I could have managed without running so much!
That rest too requires strength—
very few understand this
before it's too late.

13. Someone who has no one is not as alone as someone who has lost the person they could talk to.

14. Love like a madman
and you'll be caught like a goat.

15. As a health-conscious person, he
washes his hands with water before eating,
washes his hands with soap after eating!

16. Not here anymore!
Not with this inhuman person anymore!
How can one bear so much humiliation, so much pain?
The path back remains open, always!
Leaving everything behind,
today the time has come to leave life itself!
Can one live this way? How much longer?
Suddenly the child wakes up.
Suddenly all plans collapse.
This "suddenly" happens every day!

17. All enemies have become ex-enemies.
All lovers have become ex-lovers.
Can there be a greater emptiness than this?
What will I live for today?

18. Every day I think,
if only I could run away!
Every day I run away,
every day I return.
Where I want to return,
instead of returning there
I return there,
where I'm supposed to return.
Days end,
nights grow longer.
The weariness of monotony.

19. Work that can be done by spending money—
spending time on it instead
is both foolish and risky.

20. Nothing except begging
can be gotten for free.
Though even to get alms
one must make quite an effort!
