Philosophy and Psychology (Translated)

One. If boys spoke only what was in their hearts, and girls spoke only what dwelt in their minds, the ledger of this world might well be written differently.

Two. The person you rage against most—with cause or without—is the person you love most deeply. Though I should note: this truth does not apply to husbands and wives. What happens there is simpler and sadder both: they rage because rage must be discharged, and so they discharge it upon each other. Love, in such cases, need not be present at all.

Three. A fool and a brute are not the same thing, literally speaking—and neither are a clever person and a cunning one, for that matter.

Four. A man who accounts carefully for his own money is not called prudent. Rather, it is he who does not squander another's coin carelessly—he alone deserves the name.

Five. If you find joy in the suffering of someone you once loved or who once loved you, know this with absolute certainty: you never loved them at all.

Six. Some people comment on your photographs or post replies on Facebook merely to draw your response, or to catch the eye of others passing by. The very thought of it makes one's skin crawl. Ugh...!

Seven. Some people have come into this world for no purpose but to practice dogmatism, and to force it upon others as well. To learn nothing new themselves, and to prevent others from learning—this alone is their life's singular ambition!
