Bengali Poetry (Translated)

You are my everything

You never asked to know who you are to me!

Listen then.

You are how I feel after reading a wonderful book.

Or you are a glass of cool lemonade that brings peace through winter, summer, monsoon — all year long.

You are my evening's intoxication of strong liquor-laced milk tea.

You are my new sari spread over purple earth — raw turmeric yellow, freshly lifted and kept aside.

You are the scent of my mother's body,

the intoxication of my sister's old dupatta.

You are my childhood's going out to play in the fields, my doll's wedding.

You are my lifelong weakness, like my school dress.

Oh, you are my everything!
