Bengali Poetry (Translated)

You are mine, I say

Because I could let you go that day,
today I understand—you were meant to leave.

Because you wanted to stay that day,
today I understand—staying was never truly yours to do.

Only because you were mine
could I give you away,
place you in another's hands!
What is not our own—
can we ever give it at all?

To remain in life,
people vanish from life itself!
