Bengali Poetry (Translated)

When You Are Beside Me

A vagabond two-penny life will flicker away like a firefly... if you stay with me.
When you fall asleep in weariness or melancholy,
I'll fill a bottle with fireflies
and gaze upon your face at midnight.

You'll be lost in deep slumber,
and I'll stick my tongue out at the moon through the window crack,
"There's a moon burning in my room too, you fool... take a look!"

Believe me, all of life will pass with such ease... if you stay with me,
I could cross the harshest seas in an instant... if you come and stand beside me, hand in hand.

Whether or not any other flower blooms in life,
if you remain beside me, life itself
will feel softer than petals.

If you stay with me, life will ring like music;
"Why isn't life like a song..."
I'll never sing that mistake again.

Believe me, with just you here, all the mysteries of black holes will be revealed,
the vast complexities of space will become simple in a moment.
Pythagoras's theorem will solve itself without a formula... if only you stay with me.

If you stay with me, the coffee house conversations will come alive again,
Amit and Labanya from the final poem will surely unite at last.

Believe me, with just you... only you here,
this unbearably difficult life will become
so very, very simple!
