Bengali Poetry (Translated)

What lies between us

You wanted to know
how I was doing.
You wanted to understand
just how much pain held my heart captive.

You bound me
to your chest's faithful ribs,
asked in hushed tones—
how much does this weary body still touch you.

Why won't this exhaustion lift?
Have you seen me?
Why is there no clear reason for people's departures?
I still don't know the language to control what's inside the mind.

In long nights of waiting for you, I arrange destiny,
I fail in my attempts to ease this fierce breathlessness—
so I no longer ask after you.

I believe—
you have kept yourself well,
you have found our broken memories...
the way I had sheltered you—in my lifeless veins.
Keep with care...
the bloodied diary of my feelings.

The words I carry in my soul to stay alive—
what harm in giving you their trail?

Between us lies only one distance—
touch.
Between us flows only one force—
love.
Between us stands only one scene—
death.
