Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Vaishaakha's Companion

Far beyond my world, in distant realms,
lies that island of peace—ringed by sorrow's salt waters.
My thirsting heart had yearned to reach its shore!

Love had built a bridge
across that waveless, currentless, silent sea,
but the bridge would only crumble in grief's brine—
this my inexperienced heart could not foresee!

The journey has stopped midway,
the water's path has vanished,
where sky's emptiness and ocean's lament
have merged as one, there I have lost
that familiar shore I left behind,
forgotten that island of peace, erased the dream from sight,
in the desolate sorrow of the unpeopled sea
my heart stands alone, helpless today.

Waves from the world I abandoned
keep touching, touching this heart. But I find
no trace of their joy!

All paths back to any address are sealed.
I keep watching, hoping some unknown sailor
with tender love in his heart, carrying innocent dreams,
might deliver me to that peaceful island shore.

Lost in darkness,
this heart companions the lost star.
