Bengali Poetry (Translated)

To Some Ishita

Ishita, come close.
How long will you stay away?
Making the blue sky smile,
wearing the laughing moon's touch on your skin…
Tell me, how long will you remain the ocean's water?

Come here and see—
what a vast ocean within my chest
I've been nurturing with such care, sitting here forever!
I want to give you everything and become nothing.

Ishita, come back
from the shore of compassion.
I will give you the waters of paradise,
give you in deep faith
the slow, flowing current of water…
rhythms made audible.

Look deep into my eyes—
the stars are still there…
What invisible light signals them!

Ishita, come back as light
befriending the sun.
I will scatter each particle of you
across our world.

Ishita, come back
from near the Yamuna.
I will give you the heart's depths—
the heart that deepens slowly
in love's touch…
Ishita, only for you.
