Bengali Poetry (Translated)

To Be Drunk

Ah, if such a day would come suddenly, when you would be my king,
forgetting all the world's tricks and schemes, to bind me with love's thread,
all my silences would find their place in your heart with deepest tenderness.
I too would forget whatever bonds and duties remain,
and surrender myself, breaking through prohibitions' doors,
seeking in your hands my destiny and my world.

Tonight in this spell let shackles break, let the body heed the heart's voice,
let the moment's play defy all customs and boundary walls!
Let shawl and sheet become companions, let there be festival in forbidden trees' shade,
come then, today forgetting fortune let us revel in misfortune, buying life with stolen joy!
