Thoughts in Miniature: Sixty-Six

1. Your skin,
my fingers,
our heaven.

2. I am letting go.
I am trying.
This very trying is a kind of love.

No one has ever tried to hold me back.

3. - What do you do to stay alive?
- I try with everything I have.

4. To spare you pain,
I have forgiven myself.

5. Having to speak nicely even to petty people... what cruel punishment!

6. We dream. Dreaming is good.
If we saw it all in reality, we couldn't bear it!

7. People are not only wounded in the heart,
sometimes they are wounded in the mind too.

8. You are hurting and hurting still;
then suddenly, the bridge collapses!
Now no feeling works within you anymore.

9. Don't place your happiness in someone else's hands.
If you do, they will drop it. They always drop it.

10. Once we didn't have to search for sky.
Once there was sky within us.
Come, let's return to that day!

11. Don't think so much.
If you must think, remember—when hearts break, it's yours that will break, no one else's.

12. Look at winter's nature. How it hides itself, waiting for spring!
Being able to hide yourself like that is so essential.

13. Even the most beautiful wave must break,
before bringing itself into such lovely form.

14. Where people don't even know themselves,
does what they think of you
have any value at all?

15. Again and again I feared I might shatter.
And I did shatter.
That was the beginning of my life.

16. If we could learn from nature,
nature itself would keep us alive.

17. Sometimes a person is only mind,
sometimes only body.

18. In the heart's chambers, there is no end to rooms.
So wanting to occupy the entire heart is foolishness.

19. At the center of thought lies another thought.
At the center of that center lies only emptiness.

20. - After all this, do you still believe in God's magic?
- Of course I do!
