Those I Trusted Made Me Drunk

I was drowning in wine, lost to my neck.
Never noticed when the sun had set!
Suddenly I see, all around me heaps of dry leaves,
my whole body hidden beneath—save for these two eyes!
Swaying, stumbling, somehow I managed to stand.
When the intoxication lifted a little, I understood—
they had all abandoned me and left,
those I had trusted when I chose to get drunk.
