# The Sea Is Like Love
The sea is like love— it knows no boundaries, swallows whole cities in its restless embrace, drowns the innocent along with the guilty. The sea is like love— it wears many faces, calm one moment, a tempest the next, beautiful in its fury, terrible in its grace.

The sea is like love— it erodes everything, smooths the sharp edges of stone and shell, grinds them into sand, into something soft, something that slips through your fingers no matter how tightly you hold.

The sea is like love— it promises return, the tide always comes back, yet each wave is different, each return a stranger, each embrace a theft. The sea is like love— it teaches us drowning before it teaches us to swim, leaves us gasping on the shore, salt in our mouths, salt in our eyes, salt in every word we speak of it.

The sea is like love:
you come in and you don't know
if you're going out.

How many did not eat away their youth---
fatal dives, fatal dives,
ancestors, wells,
rocks unseen, suckers, sharks, jellyfish---all unseen.

Alas, if we cut the waves just because some drowned!
Alas, if we betray the sea, because he has ways to swallow us!
Alas, if we refuse to love as it confuses and torments!

The sea is like love:
a thousand enjoy it,
while one pays for it.
