Do you hear? Are you awake?
Look there…
The moon laughs in the sky.
The stars' exultation, some clouds drifting away…don't you see?
Night will wear away, dawn will come with warm body…
How deceptive it is!
There the sun waits quietly, sweetly…
And in free union with it, anger breaks!
Flowers destitute in the ocean of joy,
Ever-new, they bind the shore.
When I see you, the faithful roof changes at once,
You are my moon from the sky's edge! Today
Clearing the clouds, gently spreading a carpet of starlight, you sit as the moon!
Pushing aside my lonely death, in your moonlit market, with naked body
After so many years, today I have washed myself to my heart's content!
The distance between you and me is just a blink…what else is there?
This distant path…it will end, you'll see!
This old night wears itself away to become dawn just like this.
Don't you know…
Even in busy cities, solitude descends?
Even the wind's speed stops at some point?
Don't you believe all this then?
How can you deny it?
Don't fireflies stay awake at night? Don't they fly pushing through darkness? When they grow tired of playing,
Don't they fall asleep before dawn's light peeks through?
Night falls for the stars, they pile words upon words,
Growing weary like this, they finally say…shall we rest a little now?
Let this night end…let dawn come! Then see,
My waiting will dissolve, even a moment's distance will vanish!
Like them, I too will have…I will have you, I surely will!
Why does this moonlight feel so familiar?
So detached it is, so limitless!
So brilliant, so enchanting!
It binds with such magic in such youthful dress!
As transparent as it is, that ardent!
Don't you know why?
These are all your garments!
Or why else is there so much 'you' in this moonlit night?
You have exactly how many thousand garments, will you give an account?
Why are you so reckless in taking on so many different costumes?
Just of love alone, a thousand kinds…wouldn't that be right?
Look, when the stars go to rest, you will again become cold-hard!
Before the morning sun rises…in the intoxication of your love, the deep stupor will tremble!
I know you'll absorb thousands of gentle, cool pangs in your embrace!
Will your costume-play end even then?
The very next day in a different guise…why are you so boundless?
As if touching words, washing weariness, pushing sleep away
Hope mingles at the absorbed shore of your boundaries!
Shall I gather you after resting a little?
And something else…even if I don't get that, I just want your fragrance…
Why is having you so difficult?
Why are you so deep?
One day I will have…you just wait!
That day you will say…
Why do your letters end so quickly?
What would happen if you added a few more lines? Does your hand slip away?
…I will surely have you…
See, there are thousands of excuses for leaving,
And look at love's strength…there it has only one excuse!
That room of yours is mine, isn't it, tell me?
Whatever you have that's very dear, I'll take my share in all of it!
Do I torment you…too much?
You know, this 'I' wasn't such an 'I' at all…believe me…not at all!
This 'I' was terribly still!
Weaving such borders of words to pass the days,
Soaking in green light,
Mingling with feeling and spreading traces…
To me these were just meaningless ways of passing time!
With what empty eyes I used to stare constantly,
What that thirst was for, I never understood, beloved!
You were there even then within me in unknown guise…
Just as sculpture actually lies within the rough stone's heart…
This is digging into oneself to find you,
Going so deep into oneself just to have you!
A mountain of tears accumulated and became ice…
Even today you remain within me!
The more days have passed, the more restless I've become,
You are above all questions of this life!
The magic of torn rhythms in compassionate tune, the shadow of broken violins pushing through silence…
All of that is you!
Your shadow, your form…I find in you alone, nowhere else!
Love…is it so unknowing? It burns, burns like this!
The sculpture remains in the stone
