The Path of No Explanations

  The path ahead—steeped in sorrow,
the heart could simply turn away!
Yet why does the mind walk only there,
where suffering is the sole companion!
What good would avoiding the path do...sorrow won't be escaped!

"To see you? That's madness..."
someone keeps saying in that old voice, keeps saying.....
I keep listening, I only keep listening......
Even having lost all sense...I only keep listening.
Yet if I recognized this path's familiar fragrance later
how easily I would have been intoxicated!
Having recognized you, I understand,
mere intoxication is not the only way!

There must be—thousands upon thousands of such hollow lives,
whom this path's wind makes lose their way in intoxicating storms of joyful memory—
in the fullness of feeling, the heart's pull, the spell of relationship, the love of closeness—they lived in the powerful memories of such touches!
Those whom the delusion of some carefree touch-pleasure doesn't intoxicate,
only they truly live in love!

None of them are on my path.
Yet still along this very path
what draws me to walk so far, stumbling as I go!
How many glances around me push me aside carelessly....
Lately I don't anoint myself with oils, now I only anoint with tears.

Why then do you still run so swiftly on this path?
Having walked far ahead, I see the starting point spreads its friendship......
In the light sand of the walking path, among countless footprints
why do I search for life in the prints of unfamiliar paired shoes—
I never understand.

In blazing sun, in fierce heat too....why does it seem everyone around walks wearing hoodies,
each one in their own way......only speaking of themselves....
Why do I still only listen, while they all seem to shout—not this way, move that way! That's enough!
Some rickshaw rushes by, I walk absent-mindedly in its wake forever....hoping to find the path, I lose the path walking on familiar ground!
