The Flute of New Paths

Today we spoke for hours.
For the first time I truly listened to you, deeply.

Listening to you, I felt I was walking inside you…
Understanding another's pain, knowing another's sweat of labor—
this is how I've come to know you anew.
Your human compassion has fed my chest with the strength of roots.

You know how this world hangs like a wounded body!
Fear of falling everywhere. Always!
Even moonlight in darkness feels like blue grief today!

Yet you have filled my soulless eyes
with a courageous heart,
my anguish has found rest in your patient tenderness.

From today, I accept you as the only joy of my locked-away life.
So intimate now, my heart yearns to merge with yours.

You seemed to me today
like clear blue waters of the Mediterranean,
pure in spirit.
Your enchanting smile—
I felt it could be trusted, relied upon.

Your voice drew me powerfully,
some of your words plunged my mind into deep thought.
Knowing you as a humane person, my sky today wants to soar with happiness.

Tell me, do you know—
does deep love transcend society's boundaries?
Or do society's boundaries transcend deep love?
—Which is it?

Or do we all remain forever caught between these two?
Whatever society may say, today
loving you makes this whole world feel beautiful to me,
makes me want to love this entire world.
