The Essence of Prayer

Quench my thirst with the nectar from your breast,
Flood my endless night with the torrent of your light.

All that is false and phantom in me,
All that is error and murk and delusion,
Free me from these, Mother, by showing the way of illumination.

Lay this heart at your feet,
Draw it by its wealth onto the path of truth.

O Love Almighty! Supreme sovereign of this world unparalleled—you alone are its maker, its savior. By your grace it rose from the womb of primordial darkness; and now you lead it onward toward its eternal destination.

There is nothing so insignificant that I do not see you blazing within it. You are burning, and there is no enemy to your will—however opposed they seem to the eye—that does not contain you. You alone are living, ablaze, active.

O my honeyed Overlord! You are the essence of love, and I am your marrow. The torrent of your love flows through every limb of this vessel. To awaken your love in all things—no, rather to awaken all things themselves, so that they become conscious in your love—this is our work, for your love is the very life-breath of them all.

Those who know you wrongly, those who do not know you at all, those who wish to turn their faces from your divinely sweet ordinance—all of them I enfold in my love, gather them into my breast, offer them up to your luminous consciousness, so that they may become filled with your magical radiant fire, so that in your supreme bliss they may return to their own true nature.

O King of Love! O Radiant One! Enter into all, grant all their divine form.
