Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Tenderness

I remember, oh how I remember you, beloved!
I remember, when in union you lay upon my chest,
I held you close, so close, and you whispered—
Look into my eyes, darling!

I looked, and wild with joy you said—
You are only mine, only mine!
Then I held you even closer,
your voice trembling with bliss…
That voice, the sweetest sound in all the world, the most sublime music.

Since I became yours…only yours,
how could I ever belong to another!
The yearning to hear that incomparable music torments me,
come to this heart again and sing that prayer-song, that my soul may find peace.

Make me yours once more,
bring your lips close to my ear and say…
You are only mine, no one else's!
