Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Song of Living

Come, let's love this day at least!
Today alone, if only for a few moments, let us compel each other to love!

Today at least let me wear the scent of my family like an intoxicant;
Today let me craft some stories that tomorrow will find their place in memory's ledger.

Just for today let me lose myself beyond the rules of this world and its ways; let only love make the rules today.
Just in this moment let me compose some songs that can be touched when eyes close, that need no conscious caress.

Just for today let five-rupee colored tea seem like the most precious soft drink, let us all sit together and drink happiness in the name of beverages...come!
Just looking at today's sky, let it seem moon-blessed, let us mistake this pitch darkness for a sliver of moon!

Let me rub today's cool breeze on my skin and feel the rain,
let me write with mist and give rain its rest, giving birth to some immortal verses.

Today let me give all the busy mothers and fathers a holiday, let us all sit together and weave stories!
Just for today, let's live only for today and speak only of today; let tomorrow's gains or fears not touch us today.

Just for today let me leave stories behind and read poetry; remembering that stories cannot always be recited like poems.
Just for today let me not untangle the earphone wires, let everything stay tangled today.
Just for today let me break all rules and say, 'Disorder is my only order!'

Today let me indulge all doubts and wrap them in faith's blanket to sleep.
Today let me stop the clock's hands and set traps for wasting time as I please.
Today let me speak not with words but with gestures of the eyes.
Today let me spend every penny saved in the bank.

Just for today let me convince myself again and again, 'We have nothing in our hands except this "today," there can be no better alternative than to cup this "today" in our palms and live it fully.'
