Some Remaining Untroubled

Beloved Sayon, I call to you so often, you cannot hear.
My voice no longer stirs your heart. If it did, you'd surely listen.
Where have you been all this time, tell me!

Will you go to the land of clouds, Sayon? How beautiful it is! How beautiful!
I long so much to take your hand
and leap across white clouds, far away together…

Sayon, I have so many complaints. So much hurt too.
If you came a little closer, would I scold you?
Or has someone forbidden you sternly
from coming near me? Tell me truly?

That day I called, you didn't answer.
I waited. Couldn't you have called back later, Sayon?
Why do you treat me this way?

The clouds are drifting by, Sayon. Will you help me catch one?
Tell me, are you sitting there with your cheeks puffed in anger?

You know, I see you drawing sulk after sulk with single-minded resentment.
Here I've come to you, gazing at you steadily,
and you won't lift your eyes to look at me even once.

Why do you do this, Sayon?
I'm not trying to steal your beloved self away! She belongs only to you!
Keep her forever deep in your heart.
Who could care for her more tenderly than you, tell me?

I just came to see you a little, and you didn't even ask me to sit.
Are you afraid of me? Since when this fear?

Love your beloved self for life if you must, but still—
looking into my eyes, could you not
make a little space for me deep in your heart, Sayon?

I'm not as hard as you are…
You understand so well that I'm terribly childlike, I know you do.

You know, Sayon, I still want to play,
to fight, to laugh out loud with abandon,
to hold your two hands in my fists and sit quietly.

Sayon, you understand nothing at all, you only understand your beloved self.
Why must you love her so much? Is she running away?

Fine, love her. Love her more! What am I to you? No one.
I am just a drop of water seeping from stone's breast.
You're afraid to touch that water, isn't that right?

Sayon, if you're happier not touching me,
then I have no sorrow. I'm glad!

I only wanted you to laugh again
like the roaring waves of an exuberant sea!
The sound of your laughter will burn them all to ash!
They'll wonder, how did this man rise again!

When there's love in the heart, one can awaken, one can love people.
They'll never know the secret of that love, Sayon.

 It's not their fault.
They wanted to write poetry, couldn't.
 So today they're poetry-slayers!
 Forgive their anger…

Look, again, your beloved self will gaze at you steadily,
the lines of your smile will spread joy's fulfillment in her heart.

Don't send your beloved self away today.
She loves you so much. Let her laugh that joyful laugh.
Can't you, Sayon? You must be able to!
I'm telling you, you can! Don't disappoint me.

I don't want to die without seeing your success, your racing forward…
You simply must be well, Sayon! Why don't you understand?

Why have you hidden yourself from everything? Don't hide anymore.
You must see the outside world again!

You know Sayon, I never understood anyone could love me this way!
I'd forgotten how to love myself.
How happy I am now, can you imagine!
You've loved me. Like this! All these years! In silence! Without saying anything!

Whenever you said something I assumed you were just teasing.
Now I can't think that anymore. This not-being-able-to-think feels wonderful.

 Sayon, call me once.
I want to hear your hello! Don't you understand?
Why don't you understand? Do you only understand that beloved self of yours?

Thinking this way makes hurt gather! Resentment crowds my mind.
Then I torment you terribly, won't let you work. And you get so angry.
 But I understand everything, Sayon!

I don't know if I'm asking for too much.
Won't you laugh a little like before, with sound…!
Talk a little…in clear voice, bold tone!
Let no one in this world be able to break you anymore, Sayon!

Will you sit beside me a little, Sayon…becoming my very own beloved?
 Won't you sit a moment…
Let me hold you and see you…
Let me know a little what my beloved is really like!
