Secret Parting

What distance lies between us now! Is it so?
Perhaps, or else—
two people walking opposite shores of the same beach.

We have no threshold for our leaving or returning!
Our bond never sparked into argument,
never erupted with cannon-fire curses
or bared teeth and claws.

Yet, before we could understand—
an invisible border became visible between us!

Still, we cannot turn back,
just as one cannot abandon life and go to death.
In the same way,
abandoning ourselves,
we cannot return to who we were.

Once you've left something behind, there's no going back!
