Save your own heart. If you don't, it will shatter into pieces. How? One. Don't expect too much—not from anyone, no matter how close they are to you. The person you help may not feel gratitude in return. Two. Reduce your needs. Remember, you once lived with much less! If you lived well with more before, then surely there's some blessing hidden in learning to live with less now. Three. Never assume anything. Never speak without knowing, based on guesswork. Resist the temptation to make assumption-based comments. Four. Know your limitations very well, and acknowledge them to yourself. Then work to overcome them. Five. Spend enough time understanding where you stand and where you want to go. It's better to crawl with understanding than to run blindly. Six. Recognize your strengths. Once you've identified them, use them very effectively. Transform strength into great power. Seven. Don't be easily influenced by anything. The more easily people or circumstances sway you, the more readily you'll abandon the right decisions. Eight. Never envy anyone in life. Only the incapable feel envy; capable people find inspiration. Envy diminishes the mind's power. Nine. Respect what others are doing. It's not enough to look after only your own interests—you must also consider others' convenience and inconvenience, their wishes and reluctance. Respect others' opinions. Ten. Accept change. Adapt yourself to changing circumstances. The world won't revolve according to your preferences; you'll have to revolve according to the world's. The more you push change away in your mind, the more you'll suffer. Your opinion isn't important—only what's happening or not happening matters.
