Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Returning in Breath

This bad habit of staying awake all night—
has become my last refuge!

I cannot sleep through the night...
when you suddenly come and sit beside me!
...as if—
across the entirety of my feelings.

Why do you look at me this way?
Restlessness spreads through your body,
melancholy marks your eyes,
the room drowns in pitch-black darkness,
you won't even touch me—
am I dead?

In the last watch of night—
you moved toward these tear-soaked eyes,
I pulled your hand with one swift motion—
into the emptiness of my body.
As if more than you...
this fierce throbbing inside my chest
no one else should ever hear!

Beyond the restlessness of your breathing—
at last my senses returned;
I am still alive!

As the night deepened...
you ignored the sudden shower of my feelings—
like turbulent ocean waves
you wanted to hold me close.
Never before with such tenderness—
have I seen you love.
