Reflections in Miniature: One Hundred Thirty-Seven

1. The child's new shoes
hide away
the father's torn shoe's joy.

2. The fallen leaves watch
as we two break apart—
I become, you become.

3. The path is narrow enough;
yet there I see
knee-deep mud!

4. In moonlight
each wave becomes
a separate moon!

5. Sleep grows in winter,
shrinks in summer.
Then who are they
that marry in winter?

6. The moon is not as tender
as poets make it out to be.

7. The old and the failed
never stop...
when it comes to making excuses.

8. The more you demand explanations,
the more friends you'll lose.

9. Each slice of pizza
is either yours or mine.
The rest go to waste!

10. Love in days of unemployment,
unemployment in days of happiness.

11. Lightning strikes,
storms of pain.
Yes, right next to joy!

12. Even on nights of sorrow
a full moon shines,
just as on nights of joy
the darkest new moon!

13. The less the hunger,
the more the food.

14. Right answers
to wrong questions.
Right love
for wrong people.

15. Winter night.
In darkness's disguise
the mists arrive.

16. What the body wants—
can it be satisfied
by the mind's words?!

17. Even looking at your own sorrow,
never diminish another's pain.
For we are each as large as our suffering!

18. Where words add weight,
action loses its way.

19. When the harvest ripens,
call not the poet
but the farmer!

20. Before you find time,
pay time's price!
