Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Pain

The more I think to burn all longing in sorrow's fire,
The more they blaze in tears...in the heart's hollow cavern.

The more I try to make her mine, the farther she retreats,
Alone I count each night of separation in this solitary dwelling.

This heart's pain finds no echo in the god's great temple,
She comes not near to ease this longing, calls not at evening.

So forgetting myself, I sing these songs of burning—
This is how you've returned me, emptying my soul.

If you must remain so distant, then
Why did you build memory's nest?
In your absence, weeping alone,
Today love lies helpless.
