Ode to Distant Love

You call my soul back to that distant, wordless shore
With your deepest fire you set my heart dancing, and
I wonder—who but you could speak my name
above the roar of the tempest?
Who but you could rouse this banished, senseless self of mine?
I never dared to ask who you are, or why.
A vast expanse of my being circles only around you—
your being, your breath.
I choose to wait until I hear the voice you hide.
My heart's beating, the words trapped upon my tongue
find their passage on that strand where your graces fall like stars.
All but you abandon me in the faded rainbow, murdering my dreams.
