Bengali Poetry (Translated)

No one was there

What draws you back with such relentless pull?
Everything's almost spent now, isn't it?
A room filled with emptiness and a hollow heart...
That's all there is, right?
In your ledger of debts
this is all that remains now, isn't it? Tell me.
Yet...yet what is this undertow that won't let go—I truly don't understand!

Still, what helplessness keeps you from saying
that person was never yours at all?
Say, on some cursed day at a cursed hour
you came face to face in bitter collision!
Naturally, wouldn't you clutch and try to hold on?
Or would you wrap them close again
and dream of living together once more?
Even then, couldn't you tell them
they were never anyone to you?

Farewell-curse!
Do you grasp what this means?
You don't, I know.
You never understood the time of parting,
you never understood the curse.

In your farewell greeting, perhaps that's why
you could never tell them
they were never truly anyone to you at all...!
