All right, suppose—just suppose—that one day we never see each other again, never speak to each other again. Then someone new will come into your life, new memories will take shape, won't they? And under the weight of those new memories, I will sink to the bottom—I and all my memories with me, won't I? I'll forget you, and you'll forget me. Days will pass as if you and I never knew each other at all. We are together today, and that same us will one day be apart... so utterly apart that it will be as though we two were never meant to meet. And yet everything will remain in memory, nothing will be lost from remembrance. Because we are, at our core, creatures of memory.
