Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Lessons in Hatred

Who are you, to teach me my own boundaries?
Who are you, to pull me back from behind with the fear of fault?

I too have been given the life of a bird,
when I wish to fly, I must fly within the confines of boundaries,—
why do you make me learn this lesson?

The border of your sari trails in the dust,
let it trail, let it trail,
I want no veil at all!

Who are you, to come teach me hatred in the name of wisdom?
