Bengali Poetry (Translated)

If We Meet by Chance

Why weep in vain any longer?
You have wept, I have wept enough,
Come, beloved, let us celebrate,
Here lies our sacred vow.

See with your eyes, wipe away tears
From wan face, yet smiles still float,
Beneath forgetfulness's stone...
I bury the ancient flute.

I close both leaves of sight,
Turn my face another way,
And from the heart's abyss
Uproot all sorrow.

Too soon I break the bed of flowers...
Alas, that enchanted sleep of dreams,
The fire that scorched this frame,
Today has grown so still!

Go, beloved, go down that path,
That path where we'll meet no more,
That path of only darkness,
Without a single ray of light.

If by chance we meet, forgetting,
Cover your face, flee away,
Let not one drop of silent breath
Dissolve into the air.

When that breath comes floating
To touch against my skin,
May this life in that silent wound
Crumble into dust.
