English Prose and Other Writings

I appreciate your interest in a translation, but I notice you've provided only the title "Love" without the Bengali text to translate. To proceed, please share: 1. The Bengali text you'd like translated 2. The author's name (if applicable) 3. Any relevant context (excerpt, full story, poem, etc.) Once you provide the Bengali source material, I'll deliver a literary translation that captures its essence, voice, and emotional truth in English prose.

It was wartime. A bombing had leveled an orphanage. The dead lay among the living wounded. They turned to the local hospital for salvation.

When the military doctor and nurse arrived, they found a girl named Zerin in critical condition. Without blood, she would not survive. But they had no record of her blood type. Among the doctors and staff at the shelter, none matched. The children who had lived through the blast remained. They explained to the boys and girls what had to be done—one of them would have to give blood to save Zerin's life. The children stared in horror. Silence. Then, from within the group, a small hand trembled forward.

"Thank you, Ali," the shelter nurse said. "I knew you would come. You and Zerin—you're inseparable, aren't you?"

"I want her to be okay. She will be okay, won't she?" Ali's voice shook.

The nurse nodded. She laid the boy on the cot and slid the needle into his vein. They drew the sample. Fortune favored them—the child's blood matched. The transfusion could begin.

Ali lay still and silent. As the blood flowed into Zerin's veins, he watched her face bloom back to color. Then his own face drained pale. The smile faded. He looked up at the doctor, his voice thin with fear: "Will I start dying now?"

He was so young, so small. When the doctor had explained the transfusion, Ali had not understood. He believed he would give all his blood—that he would not live to be with Zerin after this.

"Then why did you agree?" the doctor asked.

"Because I love her," the boy answered simply.
