# Honey and Wine
Honey drips from the comb, golden, slow— each drop a small sun melting on the tongue.

Wine darkens in its glass, swirls with memory, holds the grape's long summers in its throat.

One is the work of bees, their mathematics of sweetness, their hexagons of light. The other, a gift of patience— yeast and time conspiring in the dark.

Both are old as thirst. Both have watched empires crumble and lovers meet by candlelight. Both have been poured as offering, as celebration, as the only comfort left when words fail.

The bee knows nothing of its treasure. The vintner waits, uncertain, wondering if what sleeps in oak will wake to beauty.

Yet they arrive the same— sweetness and ferment, the body's small rebellion, the tongue's brief joy.

In the end, they are both amber and red, both ways of saying this moment, held. This sweetness, eternal.

In the city, the moon, smoothing the sheets,
draws us with a stub of charcoal
as asphalt grows tired of shining day after day—
and you and I will find another canvas...

Today we again could not bear
to fall asleep apart in that long, still dark:
in our beloved studio—in our bed......
We paint a picture of honey and wine......

There, the sea blooms like tempting lilac
in the distant gaze of wine-dark shores,
and holds the course of a great honey-laden ship
under the whispers of waves where "oh" and "ah" reign.....

We are caught in a sweetness, drunk and treacherous,
in a honey-wine tangle of feeling.....
And the sun, its first modest ray of gentle, cool light
will catch the fruit of our intoxicating art.....
