God, this time

 
God is busy now, or perhaps in winter sleep...


Is that what you're thinking?
Wait! You're thinking wrong. That's not how it is.
The more responsible you become,
the more responsible your God will be.
First learn to take responsibility on your own shoulders,
then come to curse God.
You are as much as your God is.


Think for a moment—Italy, America, Spain and many good countries'
Gods we knew to be very good Gods.
Many of us dreamed of living in the shadow of their Gods.
What happened now?
They thought, our God will watch over us.
Nothing will happen to us, since nothing happened before. Thinking this,
they rushed to churches, markets, offices...just as before.
God saw their blindness, and
God himself became blind.


Your God's eyes stay open only
as long as you keep your eyes open.
God is good and good for all time.
God never becomes bad. Don't talk nonsense without understanding!
If you and I become bad, then
your and my personal or familial God must become bad!
Listen to your conscience—man's God becomes like man's mind.


This much you must understand. Our minds aren't getting any younger!
Why don't you understand even now—
everyone's God is not the same!
He who sleeps has a sleeping God.
He who is blind has a blind God.
He who is awake has an awake God too.
He who cannot hear has a deaf God too.
He who labors has a God who labors too.


Unbutton your heart and look—God is right there!
When you're looking toward God,
keep your two eyes open then.
If your eyes are closed,
your God's eyes will remain closed.
Accept this. Accepting this is what growing up means.


I plead with you—wake your God.
Don't sleep anymore.
If you sleep, the price for that will have to be paid
by me and those I know and don't know.
If you are religious, if you are human,
then you cannot do this.
Our religion has taught us to pray.
Come, let us keep the eye of our heart open in all our prayers.


If you or I or both of us sleep,
then your God and my God will both sleep—
both our Gods have come to this understanding today.
We become angry, agitated, whatever else we may become,
today, at this very moment, our God is firm in the decision taken.


Whatever you may say, this is justice.
God is certainly just, and being just
believer or atheist or someone in between—
all three kinds of people today are equally helpless, bound for death.
Whoever's hand began that journey,
everyone's path is the same. There is no favoritism here.
Indeed, this world has never received greater justice than this.


So I plead again—
don't sleep in this time of crisis.
If you sleep, your God will sleep,
and according to the terms of the pact between your and my God,
then...I too, staying awake,
will have to close my eyes and fall asleep.
Along with us will sleep...our children, our beloved ones.
