Faith

Faith! All told, just those four letters,
with only one conjunct character between!
...Such power in so small a word!!!

Sometimes it thumbs its nose at a hundred storms and builds a bond anyway,
other times, like some fierce intoxicant, it takes two people
living as one in love's wild embrace
and in the blink of an eye splits them apart into strangers on separate paths!

Faith! What a terrible kind of whimsy!
Once it's somehow truly broken,
all the world's forces together can't mend it back!

She who once held her beloved's every word as scripture,
one day refuses to be swept away by the current of his voice!

She who once lost sight of her beloved every moment,
one day forgets even to mourn when news comes of his departure!

Why?...Simply for want of this fickle faith!
Ah, faith! That double-edged, mighty ruler!
If it carries you toward equilibrium, floating you on love's tide,
then the very next moment it can just as easily
shatter every tower of dreams with one blow and leave you desolate!
What a burden, weathering such a two-way storm!

Faith! It can be named in one word—ruinous!
It stirs waves of ruin on both banks of the river!
On one side it builds anew in love's union,
on the other it destroys the old to heartbreak's tune!

Faith! Truly wrapped in such mystery!
