You are my mind-soothing dive into Bengali verse, sometimes pure joy of reading—across a thousand years or one bloodied field of feeling. You are the persistence of all my writing, and in you and me together, the grammar of compound and connection.

You are the rearrangement of my English. Rearrange me too, won't you, with the simple clay of your heart! Join me to you like a preposition this evening! You exist across all the verbs of my entire day. You are the flaw, virtue, condition, number, even the measure of every adjective before my eyes. And you are my exclamation!

Like the careful repetition of arithmetic, I place a black dot on your forehead with such care. You are my algebra's purification—day after day I am made pure by your grace alone!

You are the six-point demands of our history, though you are my nine and six... everything, all of it! Even geography's tracing paper—that too is you!

You are biology's mitochondria or the chlorophyll in green leaves. You are my chemistry's tiniest electron, proton, neutron particles, or you and I together become a concentrated solution of sodium sulfate. In physics you become my personal logic gate or each law of buoyancy.

The needle-and-thread box of home economics, the first-aid kit of physical education... those too are you!

Across my entire body you are both wound and balm! For this whole ream of vast white pages, you are my single inkwell and pen!
