Bonsai of Thoughts (Translated)

Bonsai of Thoughts: One Hundred Twelve

1. Winter rain, slowly, slowly,
gathers tears upon those letters
where lie buried
all my old sorrows.

2. The road along which
you left me and walked away—
its length and age have grown
with each passing day.

3. On the journey,
whoever stops
finds chains
wrapped around their feet...

4. Winter's stormy rain...
The big foolish umbrella
tries to walk backwards.

5. God dwells not
in hills or mountains;
only in the mind.
We go there merely to find the mind!

6. This morning...
you are within my mind,
a crow stands outside the window.
Suddenly I look outside!

7. Why is the wind so ravenous!
Whatever light I possess,
it devours it all...!

8. One who knows not himself,
yet claims to know God...
Such a person,
know him to be false.

9. If stones had
color or fragrance,
would people still
search for flowers upon stones?!

10. Ah, if only I never grew old!
...Would new light
then come?!

11. I shouted, "Yes, come inside!"
But he did not come in.
The door kept rattling
to frighten me...

12. Go and see
the old graves, circling them...
Even today the sun
rises...sets there...

13. I would rather be
that child of the father
who gets scolded often...
than become an orphan.

14. Death song:
the rustling sound of dry leaves...
in the wind, underfoot.

15. Before death...
let me see moonlight, flowers blooming, lover's laughter.

16. Where I end,
there you begin...
in midnight's sun.

17. Whether there was light
or fire within you,
I could not tell
before the burning.

18. In every sip of coffee
a thousand yous are mixed...
along with solitude.

19. Every separation,
at day's end,
is transferable.

20. In the wild pear
let the first bite
be mine.
