Bonsai of Thoughts (Translated)

Bonsai of Thoughts: One Hundred Sixty-One

1. As you were leaving, you waved your hand.
Why?
Were you calling me closer? Or bidding farewell?

2. I have no fear of separation;
what I fear is love itself!
Separation, after all, kills but once!

3. So much came into this life,
but life itself never came!

4. Whose house, who lives there!
Whose food, who eats it!

5. I close the newspaper
and open a book of poems.
How much more of blood's scent can one bear!

6. Hours pass in love's embrace,
while work piles up in heaps!

7. Did you see only this heart's ashes?
Did you not see that fire upon the moon!

8. The door is closed.
Come, now let us undo all bonds, one by one!

9. Beloved, I beg of you,
hold the moon steady;
lest it slip and fall to earth again!

10. Such sweet orchestra of rain on the tin roof...
if some water leaks through, so let it!

11. One who serves great purposes—
what sense in bringing them to small tasks?

12. I bear no anger toward you;
all my rage falls
upon that beloved of yours
who keeps you captive!

13. Some write literature,
others merely write books!

14. : Why do you cast your eyes down in this crowded gathering?
: What use in telling everyone your name?

15. The heart has already changed;
now if I don't change my faith as well,
what difference will it make!

16. So swollen with wounded pride?
Shall I... let the hot winds within
carry me away
and deflate you utterly?

17. Before dying, grandfather said,
"Stay alive, my boy!"
Grandfather could have spared me
that final curse!

18. A bride bright as the moon
gradually transforms
into nothing but a plate of bread.

19. The moon's interest, the sun's principal.
People go mad only for interest!

20. Make me your mirror!
See me beautiful!
If you will not make me your mirror,
then I'll know this is mere lust!
