Bonsai of Thoughts (Translated)

Bonsai of Thought: Seventy-Six

1. So much rain! So much rain!
The river couldn't hold it,
it found refuge in the sea!

2. Mountain upon mountain
merciless lightning strikes!
Just then
I remember mother.

3. In sudden storm
the pair of pink lips
turns pale.

4. Watching the rain fall
the silly girl
stretches out both eyes.

5. The pillow
the girl sleeps on
has torn to shreds...
not from the weight of her head,
but from her tears.

6. Emerging from the forest
a little bird
sits on the city cornice
flapping its wings,
forgetting how to fly.

7. In heavy rain
the umbrella's body
spreads its scent.

8. One autumn afternoon
a stranger
enters one village
and stops in another.

9. In a folded napkin
the shadows hold their storytelling session.

10. In scorching noon
leaning against the breeze
dreams arrive.

11. The empty wheelchair
circles through memory
from room to room.

12. Distant stars
tremble in the storm,
the ocean's light
dims in fear.

13. Inside the city's streets,
buildings and cars—
darkness.

14. Storm days are longer
than even the night's pleasure!

15. Midway
the traveler stops and wonders,
when will the clouds weep?

16. At journey's end
the bus conductor
suddenly
spins
all the seats around!

17. Across the skies
I search for the kite's cry
measured by the hawk's beak.

18. What a morning!
Sparrows sit in rows;
all of them
headless, necks empty.

19. In the waterfall's depths
the dead fish
still
braces against the current
and lies there.

20. In sunshine upon sunshine
half the glittering sand
isn't sand at all!
