Beyond Touch

Never ask me,
how much I love you.
If I tried to tell you, it would always fall short—
my dictionary simply doesn't hold enough words!
All the words I've gathered since birth,
that is, even if I collected every word from this lifetime,
I still couldn't finish telling you exactly how much…I truly love you!

Look up at that sky—
can you grasp it?
That emptiness,
the infinite sky wrapped
in the distance between you and that star…
Even if you reach out or run for an entire lifetime,
could you ever touch it?

When you reach out from afar,
only distance melts away through gaps in the air—
it can never be caught!
Tell me, who has ever managed to say
exactly how much they love someone?

Does the ocean hold enough water
to wash itself completely clean?
A skyful of birds, trying to tell someone of their love,
have become fugitives…seeing this,
whenever you want to know exactly how much,
it means: not that much, but just as much—
tears gather in your chest,
you keep strength clenched in your fist,
dreams hide and survive in the corners of your eyes!

The cosmos knows just right…how to give infinite drops of dew!
How much can the whole earth hold of it?
How much rain can an entire river hold?
How much water makes water flow like a current?
How much salt does saltwater hold?
How many can live in the heart's chamber?
Alas, whoever knows everything plays tricks!
