Being human, seek the human

 
Even beside my deathbed
I will never call you to me.
May you live a thousand years more—
in that prayer I shall keep you.


Are you frightened to hear this?
Is your heart twisting with pain?
Do you feel tears welling up?
Ah, what blessed fortune that I still live today!


Don't be afraid! Without loving you to my heart's fill,
without burning day and night, I won't leave so easily.


If my love for you ever comes to an end,
that day I'll surely die giving you much sorrow!


Yet, if some disease should force
me to depart against my will,
when your time on this earth is spent,
come to me without hesitation.


From your love I choose each day
whatever I need for myself.


All the dreams I have around you,
I tend them with care...sometimes by water's edge,
sometimes in barren fields, on harsh soil
I plant them with utmost care.


Even if you die in this pandemic,
on your shoulder, on your chest, in your hands
just leave my touch behind—
like a tiny grain of wheat!


If you get the chance, go to my grave,
plant a few seeds of grain there.


Another terrible time will make the world weep,
that hour of crisis rushes toward us—a fierce shortage of grain!
People will die of hunger, of drought...the earth will burn with famine!


If you love me,
become human right now, seek out humanity, be humane!


Find water sources and plant a few seeds,
tend them with care, as you tend me with care.
