Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Begging for Grace

I am guilty of so many wrongs,
Is that why you push me to such corners?
How will I live without you—
Don't you understand this much, doesn't it touch your heart?

You understand everything—the boundless universe, creation-preservation-destruction!
Only this you don't grasp: why does my heart weep without end!

You made humans, for them light and air and water;
By your grace everyone lives well enough,
Then for what special sin have you left me broken?

Everything in the world is yours, all of it your play;
Am I so far from you—that I must build my home in solitude...
Everyone else will find you near, will I alone remain friendless?

Whatever you give, only you can give; to some you're Krishna, to others Ram;
My whole body, Lord, burns; around my neck I wear a garland of poison...
Can't you hear me—chanting your name with such fervor!
