Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Before Being Destitute

We had assumed
we were very poor;
so poor that we had nothing at all.

Then suddenly one day
everything we had began to disappear.
One thing after another. Every single day.

Having lost and lost, today we sit on the roadside.
Today, truly, we have nothing at all.
Today we look back with longing at the wealth of those wonderful days
when we used to think
we were so terribly poor. We had nothing at all.

Until we became destitute, we never understood
that we had everything it takes to be happy.

We thought we needed more light to be happy.
We had forgotten that on sorrow's journey, even that little light is enough!
