Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Azure Promise

Nila and I,
Ananda and Sultana—
these relationships...
torment me;
I want release.

I am one
who in the firmness of a spectrum faith
writes upon life's spreading walls
the slogan
of peace.

I will wrest from life
a conviction,
I will wrest from life a sky-blue
promise and
then drown myself
in a flood of wild laughter.

I love Sultana, because
the spell of her melancholy eyes
wearies me.

I am one
who walks in search
of the most distant morning,
following the afternoon sun.
