Bengali Poetry (Translated)

Awakening

 Now I understand,
when coming home late at night,
or not coming home at all...
it actually feels good when someone asks for an explanation!

 Now I understand,
placing that newly bought expensive phone
in plain sight doesn't mean success.

 Now I understand,
 people one day
 stop waiting for birthdays.
The age of jumping with joy on birthdays does come to an end...

 Today I understand,
when some of my friends are celebrating promotions,
while others are cancelling plans to go abroad,
right then the time arrives suddenly
to stare blankly at the phone!

 Today I understand,
stepping out just to buy an ice cream
and returning home having bought the entire marketplace—
 that's not prosperity, it's melancholy.

 Today I understand,
 being tired all the time
 right until falling asleep
 isn't busyness, just fatigue.

 Today I understand,
why every time we wanted to eat out
 mother would say,
"Child, we have food at home!"

 Today I understand,
 life's tasks never end,
 they only multiply.
One day, the week's beginning and end
 both follow the same routine.
 What needs to be done,
 people just keep postponing.
What doesn't need to be done,
people somehow find excuses to do!
